Drook Brings Vivid Force To LCY Uncut With “Sprinter”
Drook never stops making waves. In the midst of a twenty-two-date tour, the Richmond band took a moment to visit LCY Media headquarters, delivering a captivating performance of “Sprinter,” captured in striking detail in this newly released video. Striking in every way, it offers just a glimpse of the trio’s incredible year for both live sets and music releases.
The opening track to the trio’s landmark new album, The Pure Joy Of Jumping, “Sprinter” embodies the manic compulsion of attraction, pulsing with a feverish hyperpop energy. Obsession and reason collide in the lyrics, while the music paints the tension, diving headlong into an frenzied abyss that will either heighten the turmoil or offer a sense of relief. The band moves through the song as if it’s the latter, fully immersing themselves in the mania while bracing for the inevitable crash that’s bound to come.
The direct yet sensational video brings this rabid fray to full life. Shot in monochrome by Carlisle Jones of Lawnchair Youth, the colors still pop out of Drook’s bold expression, as every rhythmic pause and melodic quiver hit louder and bolder against the absence of color. It’s as if the grayscale canvas becomes a stage for the emotion to bleed through, turning the ordinary into something extraordinary. For those fortunate enough to see the band live, the video captures that same thrilling energy, but there’s an added intensity in the band’s performance here that cuts through even more powerfully.
