Fly Anakin Sitcom Hops While Channel Surfing On “Outsidigan’s Anthem”

 In News

2022 saw local rapper Fly Anakin grow his skill and brand with the release of his debut studio, Frank, after years of exciting mixtapes and EPs. This year, the enterprising MC is looking to continue growing his catalog with a pair of EPs entitled Skinemaxx, both of which are produced by his longtime collaborator Foisey. In April, he released the first half of that project, entitled Skinemaxxx (Side A), with 12 forceful tracks that feature a few familiar names. Before that release though, Fly Anakin released a single and video for one of the record’s stand-out tracks, the manic, laid-back “Outsidigan’s Anthem,” which previewed the album’s swirling charm.

Directed by Matt Cowen, the video finds the Mutant Academy member channel surfing while seated between friends on the couch, with each quick stop throwing the surging rapper into different TV programs in front of his eyes. Police procedurals, workplace comedies, and hospital dramas are all re-visited with the fictional Fly Anakain in the lead role as his real-world counterpart gazes ahead, still searching for something worthwhile to watch.

The song itself is built on a silky instrumental with sax trills that punctuate the drum machine loop. Anakin’s flow is feverish and relentless, contrasting the polished nature of the music with raving bars, all of which seem to complement the idea of “relaxation” on the couch coming from switching from one madcap show to the next. Punchy and soulful, it’s another great entry into Fly Anakin’s teeming catalog that speaks to those always looking for an escape in their life.
