Gemini Love Demolish Richmond In Kaiju-Inspired Video For “Alchemy”
Richmond is under siege! Well… at least it is in the cheeky new music video by power rock group Gemini Love for their new song “Alchemy.”
The video was released over the past weekend and includes this description: “A giant monster has appeared over downtown, terrorizing the good citizens of RVA. As our top scientists and government officials try to find a solution, one brave woman races to save the city.” It’s a perfect mix of parody and homage that fans of the Americanized version of tokusatsu will certainly love, and while we won’t spoil the ending, let’s just say that the giant, sloth-like monster has a… subversive weakness.
“Alchemy” is the first single from the band’s forthcoming EP, This Is Not Science, due out on January 1st. The song is a splendid version of the modern day rock song, with indie rock flourishes and power pop melodies helping to forge a style that walks the line between radio hooks and underground charm. Even the message of the song walks this line, one equally familiar and impulsive, with a different approach to the classic love song. “She was like a / Scientist with no degree / And her greatest experiment’s / The one she did in me” goes the chorus, underscoring the actual story of the video and the harmony behind Gemini Love’s congenial yet earnest sound.
Watch the battle for Richmond take place in Gemini Love’s video for “Alchemy” below, and make sure to catch the band on January 5th for their EP release show at The Broadberry alongside Broke Royals, Colin Phils, and Silver Twin.
