Mekong Xpress’ Soulful “Games” Featured On RVATRACK21

The 21st installment of RVATRACK was released earlier this week, featuring an elegant and stirring performance of the new song “Games” by Richmond powerhouse Mekong Xpress And The Get Fresh Horns.

The song was originally released this past October as part of the group’s vibrant debut record on Egghunt Records, Common Knowledge, an album described as moving “fluidly along the lines that connect funk, soul, and Southern rock” in an Auricular feature written by contributor Davy Jones that ran in September.

“Games” fits definitively between that soul and funk space, with a mellow but robust sound that washes over your ears with graceful expertise. Ben White’s glossy vocals navigate the song while the flawlessly potent rhythm section provides the driving power, and the soothing horn section and lively guitars fill the remaining space with a richly inviting tone.
