Noah-O & Big No Embody The Richmond Brave Spirit On “Uncle Phil”
Today marks the release of Richmond Brave, an eleven track collaboration between Richmond hip-hop titans Noah-O and Big No that is vibrant, commanding, and genuine from top to bottom. It’s another stellar entry into each rapper’s deep discography, as well as Richmond’s legendary hip-hop catalog which the two have helped cultivate and nurture over the years. Out on all streaming platforms now, the pair previewed the album just a few days earlier with the release of a whirring video for the album’s lead single, “Uncle Phil.”
Borrowing from the beloved ’90s sitcom The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, “Uncle Phil” finds the two MCs splitting the track (produced by Retro Izzy) with their blowy flows that illustrates their musical diligence and lyrical clout. “A lot of hard work but these suckas keep thinking it’s magic,” Noah-O boasts in one line, pointing to the assiduous ethos that has driven his music as well as Big No’s over the years. Shot by Dyfferant, the video finds the pair in the Laburnum Shopping Center on the outskirts of the city, holding court over a flock of loyal fans. No flashy theatrics are needed here — Dyfferant precisely captures the welcoming groove of the music while keeping the focus clearly on two musical powerhouses reveling in their hip-hop glory.
Richmond Brave comes quickly after a busy year for both rappers, with Big No dropping his record Thank da Plug in March of 2022 and Noah-O following suit with his own LP in September entitled TRILLipino . Noah-O himself stayed in the headlines well after that release as news broke about his lawsuit with MLB team Cleveland Guardians over the logo for the Richmond business/brand Charged Up Entertainment. Litigation is still underway, but make sure to support Charged Up if you can by buying a shirt from their online store or stopping by their shop on Broad Street in downtown Richmond.
