OffKey Ent Pursue “PEACEOFMIND” In Three-Part Neo-Soul Odyssey
Simply put, “PEACEOFMIND,” the debut single from the OffKey Ent collective, is a mosaic wonder. Comprised of three enchanting parts, it’s a consolidation of ingenious skill and expansive vision from ten talented instrumentalists, vocalists, and lyricists, all striving for unique harmony. Released this past January alongside an accompanying music video, this single serves as an ambitious introduction to the collective’s dynamic sound that is limitless in potential.
As stated, “PEACEOFMIND” features ten members from the OffKey Ent, though the collective includes many more versatile artists and creative minds. For this song, ten seems to be the right amount, as the talent is spread across three stimulating movements. Each section carries a slightly different ambiance with modulating tempos and evolving melodies, though they are all connected by a warm neo-soul that is felt through the flushing keyboard notes that ripple underneath the whole eight-minute odyssey. You can point to highlights at every turn of the song, but really, the song’s appeal is in the totality of the musical journey, one that concludes with an encouraging lyrical output before well-earned celebration erupts (“If you are here for the space and time/ Here’s something to give you peace of mind”).
Directed by Kamari Branch, the video explores the lavish track through interwoven parts that help contrast the modular music.
