Premiere: Lofties Tears Through Genre And Emotion On “NOWHER3”

 In News

Gaze into your own desire. Confront it not just with full attention, but with a piercing sense of scrutiny. Let it twist around you, fraying and splitting at the edges, until you’re left with its rawest form. Chaotic at the root–sprawling, amorphous–but it’s there, in that mess, where we can truly see it and decide if it’s real. And if it is, those tangled tendrils and filaments can always be cleaned, refined, and shaped into something presentable. As long as it’s real beneath the surface, that’s what matters.

This manic intent drives “NOWHER3,” the latest single from recording artist Lofties, delivering an overwhelming surge of expression, one unrestrained by digital confines or genre labels. Instantly striking, it’s a song that crashes on your psyche in waves–glitchy, euphoric, and turbulent in the best way. Set for release on Sunday, March 23rd, this new song is one that is instantly felt, mirroring a storm of raw emotion and sonic overload, blurring the line between catharsis and collapse. Today, The Auricular is excited to premiere this new track, with an exclusive stream below along with a glimpse into the evolution of Lofties and its limitless future.

Lofties began in 2017 as a bedroom pop collaboration between Andrew Brown and Austin Ruhf, debuting that same year with the intimate and textured EP BAD. In the years the followed, the projected evolved into Brown’s solo venture, where he began to explore beyond the confines of dreamy indie rock. In 2024, he signaled a stylistic pivot with the release of “Pills,” a lively electronic caper that broke away from his earlier sound. Four more singles followed that year–“yesterday,” “sometimes,” “on my knees,” and “change my mind”–each oscillating between ambient pop and hyper-rock.

This past February, Lofties released the warbling single “Waysid3,” which, along with “NOWHER3,” marks his current dive into digicore–a hyperpop microgenre that also loosely draws on niche genres like cloud rap, trance, and midwestern emo. Lofties’ take on this sound feels uniquely his own, stretching from his bedroom pop roots into something more fragmented and introspective, like a reflection distorted the deeper it’s examined.

“NOWHER3” embodies this approach in striking fashion, presenting an unconventional take on adoration. “‘NOWHER3’ is an upbeat love song,” Brown explained. “Highlighting the beauty of finding someone who you truly relate to. Combined with the liberation from being judged that comes with finding a person who understands you deeper than anyone else.” That emotion propels the track to an overblown intensity, with the frenzied digital soundscape surging to sharp, jagged peaks. “My eyes wait for your stare,” Brown sings behind several layers of distortion, underscoring how deep connection can push someone beyond their emotional threshold, spilling into amorphous bursts–just like this musical expression.

Outside of Lofites, Brown has also made his mark as a producer, most notably working alongside alternative R&B artist Shy Lennox on the 2017 breakout single “Afterblunts.” Exposure to such a wide range of unconventional styles fuels the intent behind Lofites, a project unconcerned with fitting into any predefined mold or echoing past work. As Brown stated, the music of Lofites surpasses the ability to be “genre-fied,” leaving the path ahead wide open. We might continue to swirl through his digital mania in the vein of “NOWHER3” and “Waysid3,” or drift back into the indie reverie where the project began. Then again, something entirely new could be on the horizon. Whatever direction Lofties takes, the outcome is bound to keep us captivated and intrigued, just like the splashy, chaotic fray of “NOWHER3.”

“NOWHER3” is set for release on Sunday, March 23rd on all streaming platforms. To keep up-to-date on future releases and updates from Lofites, make sure to follow him on Spotify and Instagram.
