REIN Pulls Back The Curtain On Album Recording With REINCHECK
Local guitar hero REIN has been one of the hardest working individuals in Richmond’s music scene for years, releasing rousing singles like “Getcha Back” and “Heartbreaker,” collaborating with rising voices like Baby Bugs and Rine, and teaming up with production houses like Hourglass Sessions for slick, high-energy videos. All that’s left it seems is for the electric pop-rocker to put out his own album, something he’s been diligently working on over at In Your Ear studios. Now, REIN is pulling back the curtain on that process with REINCHECK, a new documentary-style video series that stitches together behind-the-scenes moments, creative insights, and tantalizing previews of what’s in store for the album.
“Right now, we are hunting for the voice of this guitar on my album,” REIN–real name Jordan Reinecke–declares at the start of the first episode, following a quick montage of him unloading gear from his car. “In order to do so, I have to be pummeled in the chest by equivalent volume of a shotgun blast.” It’s hyperbolic of course, but it speaks to the precision REIN demands from his sound, a process that unfolds throughout the video with striking attention to detail.
In the studio, REIN is joined by In Your Ear recording engineer Tom Preston, who helps shape his sound, and longtime collaborator/producer Pete Rango, who acts as both a trusted sounding board and an impromptu cameraman. For gearheads and audiophiles, REINCHECK offers a fascinating look at the fine-tuned process of crafting a record, from honing a specific tone to refining takes. For casual fans, it’s a revealing glimpse into the dedication, experimentation, and sheer creative energy that fuels the recording process.
Beyond the video series, fans eager for an even earlier preview of the album should mark their calendars for Tuesday, April 1st, when REIN takes the stage at Shockoe Sessions Live for a performance from the very same studio featured in REINCHECK. (Ticket information here!) No stranger to the Studio A setting, he previously performed there as part of the “New Year, Old Friends” showcase at the start of 2024. A member of the Shockoe Records lineup, REIN has worked closely with label over the years, including on “Miss Christmas,” a standout track from their 2023 holiday compilation.
You can watch the first episode of REINCHECK below and make sure to follow REIN on social media for updates on episode two and, of course, that long-awaited album release date.
