VF Shaolin Comes To Life Among Art And Shadows In “Flame-It” Video
Richmond offers a wealth of inspiring vantage points, whether it’s a hill that gives you a sweeping view of the city or an art collection that comes alive in quiet solitude. In his latest video for “Flame-It,” Richmond MC VF Shaolin taps into the latter, roaming through the space and drawing energy from its artistic wellspring late at night.
Directed by Phingu, the video follows VF Shaolin as he moves through the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, capturing his presence in night vision-tinged filters, prowling silhouettes, and raw, dark clarity. The VMFA’s contrasting backdrops provide the perfect canvas as he muses rhythmically over a mysterious beat that keeps Shaolin’s fluid sound grounded within its rolling gravity. Representing the true amorphous core of his style, the video not only gives “Flame-It” a fresh platform to stand on but also a way for it to thrive.
“Flame-It” serves as the closing track to VF Shaolin’s 2024 album Fire To My Flame, released in September, and stands out as one of the album’s key tracks, alongside “P.G.H.PT” and “Don’t Know Bout!”–all capturing his swirling charm. Since the album’s release, the hip-hop artist has maintained a steady flow of singles, rounding out 2024 with three additional tracks and kicking off 2025 strong with four more: “Panzer,” “888,” “Firr,” and “richgettinrich.” Since making his debut in 2018 with “GODLYBOYOLYMPIAN,” VF Shaolin’s musical well has remained abundant, offering him endless inspiration with each new release, making every year another significant milestone for this bold and evolving artist.
